Why ask a counselor to help your business or organization?
Especially in a small business, the human-ness is clear. It is a person standing in the aisle and reaching for your product - or the one next to it. It is a person with a problem that finds your name, hoping for a solution. It is people who surround you and make your business run and who go home each evening to family and friends counting on them as well.
Reflecting on your own experience of living cannot help but illuminate the interactions around you. The more information you have and the broader your view, the more opportunities come into sight.
What I mean by an Existential Approach
My formal therapeutic training is in existential phenomenological psychology, a fancy name but an approach that is flexible and penetrating. It teaches that the complexities of human life lie at the heart of much psychological distress and the dilemmas we find ourselves in. Attend to these and your decisions become a means of deeper and more immediate engagement with the world.
Existential issues color our life, work and relationships. If we don't address them consciously, they will affect us in unseen ways. These issues include our someday-death, our attempts to control or read the future, the question of good and evil. We long to do something meaningful with our lives but struggle to keep focus. We move among other people, with more or less ease, but bump up against the complexities of human relationship.
Statement of Ethical Standards
.
As a CPA and also as a counselor, I am bound by laws and ethical standards set forth by federal and state law and by the code of conduct of the organizations that govern our practices. The laws and standards regulating these two professions are similar in spirit and intent. I do not expect them to conflict except in rare and specific circumstances, and, in that case, we would discuss this in light of your specific situation.
Both professional codes require that:
• I serve you well and professionally
• I keep our work together confidential in almost all situations
• I am fair and accurate in my record keeping and financial relationship with you
• I stay current in my skills via continuing education
Both give you rights were I to violate these standards.
Upon request, or prior to working together, I will provide you with information regarding my therapeutic approach, confidentiality matters, the scope of my services and our respective rights and responsibilities. I will have you sign paperwork acknowledging the receipt of this information.
