Individual Counseling and Therapy
"Something there is that doesn't love a wall, that sends the frozen-ground-swell under it and spills the upper boulders in the sun, and makes gaps even two can pass abreast." ~ Robert Frost, Mending Wall
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I help men and women address problems with depression and anxiety, work through traumatic experiences or histories, and take their life in new directions.
My approach is traditional and depth-oriented, influenced by Carl Jung, Erik Erikson, and existential and psychoanalytic thinkers. If you understand that your struggles may be repeating themselves in your life and you want to know yourself in a new way, then you may find the process of therapy fascinating.
What is the difference between counseling and therapy?
In Counseling, you talk through your current struggles and concerns and any symptoms of depression or anxiety. Counseling develops practical information and new points of view. We build on your strengths as you try new ways of being in the world. Deeper questions may arise and we consider these as well.Therapy adds a deeper level of watching for themes and patterns in your life, as well as during our sessions and during your week. We look for symbolic meaning in your dreams and free associations and spend time reviewing your family and life history. Time in therapy teaches you to watch your life and relationships with this same respect for how complicated it is to be a good and healthy person.
